This piece has an exclusive design that captures the essence of antiqued charm. It has seemingly a metal-like look but when you take it in your hand, you can feel the warmth of wood and smooth texture. The surface texture is created by sprinkling clay powder called "Tonoko" and then beautiful "Harigaki" designs are done all around and the bottom. Also you can find a small moon design on the bottom inside too. The artist Sayo expresses the image of the scenery and flowering plants in the gathering darkness on the design. Sake cup "Flower bud" by Sayo Kuroki

This breathtaking sake cup is used one of Makie technique called "Hari-gaki". This technique itself has been handed down since the 1500s in Japan. This is made by sprinkling metal powder on a black lacquered surface and then scratch with a special needle before drying the lacquered surface. The design is drawn freehand and the pen needs to be driven vigorously all at once before drying out the surface because it cannot be redone. The contrast between black and silver brings out a modern image. Absolutely one of a kind masterpiece.
