This round tray is hand made by a master craftsman in Yamanaka Ishikawa prefecture, where is said to be one of the best wood turning and sophisticated Urushi coating skill in Japan. Especially this striped pattern on the surface and the side feature this "Yamanaka-nuri". Not only as a tray, you could use as a rimmed plate or if you flip you could enjoy creating different ambiance into your table.

This fan shaped tray is used the traditional technique called "Negoro-nuri", which black Urushi lacquer is applied many times under then red Urushi lacquer for the final coating to finish. So the black colour will come out from underneath little by little with use. Long term use will give an additional charm to it. The chisel marks create rich and dignified appearance.
